Black or Brown Leather Bomber Jacket: Which One Should You Buy First?
Style guide 5 min read
Most women buy one leather bomber and wear it for years, so the colour decision matters. Black and brown are not interchangeable: they sit differently against denim, against skin tones, and against the rest of a wardrobe. This is how to pick.

Start with your wardrobe, not the jacket
Open your closet and count. If most of your trousers and shoes are black, grey, and navy, black is the safer first jacket. If you live in blue denim, cream, olive, and tan, brown will be worn more. The jacket should join the clothes you already reach for.
What black does
- Reads sharper and more formal. It is the one to wear over tailored trousers at work.
- Hides wear. Scuffs and creases on black cowhide show as sheen, not colour change.
- Can flatten an outfit that is already all dark. Add a white tee or a light knit underneath.
What brown does
- Warms up denim and looks intentional with sneakers and boots.
- Shows its age, on purpose. A distressed brown like our Vintage Brown Bomber darkens at the seams and lightens at the folds over the first season.
- Fights with true black trousers. Pair it with navy, charcoal, cream, or blue denim instead.
Skin tone and hair
Hold each colour up to your face in daylight. Brown tends to flatter warm and golden undertones and lighter hair; black tends to sharpen cool undertones and dark hair. This is a tendency, not a rule. Trust the mirror over the theory.
Fit is the same, finish is not
Our black and brown bombers are cut on the same women's block in the same sizes, so the size guide applies equally. The difference is the hide finish: the Classic Black is a smooth, drum-dyed cowhide; the Vintage Brown is waxed and distressed, so it feels slightly softer from the first wear.
If you still cannot decide
Buy black if the jacket needs to work at the office. Buy brown if it will mostly see weekends. If it is genuinely both, black first, brown second. Or book a free fit call and we will look at your wardrobe with you.
