How to Wear an Oversized Leather Bomber Jacket Without It Wearing You

Style guide 5 min read

An oversized bomber is cut big on purpose: dropped shoulder, wide sleeve, a body that hangs rather than hugs. The trick is keeping that volume in one place so the rest of the outfit stays sharp. Here is how.

Oversized is a cut, not a size

Do not buy a fitted bomber two sizes up. The shoulder seam will land halfway down your arm and the armhole will sit wrong. A true oversized pattern like our Oversized 90s Bomber drops the shoulder deliberately and keeps the neckline and length in proportion. Order your usual size; go one down if you want it closer.

The one rule: volume on top, line underneath

The jacket supplies all the width. Everything below it should be narrow or long: straight or slim jeans, a column skirt, a slip dress, tailored trousers. Wide-leg trousers under an oversized bomber can work, but only with a fitted top and the jacket left open.

Five outfits that hold the balance

  1. Slim black jeans, a fitted ribbed tank, and a pointed boot. The classic.
  2. A long silk slip dress and sneakers. The jacket stops at the hip, the dress keeps going.
  3. Bike shorts, a cropped tee, and chunky trainers. Keep everything else plain.
  4. Tailored trousers with a sharp crease and a fine knit tucked in. Zip the jacket halfway.
  5. A mini skirt, sheer tights, and ankle boots. Let the jacket be the biggest thing in the frame.

What to avoid

  • A second oversized layer underneath. A slouchy hoodie inside a slouchy bomber reads as bulk, not style.
  • Wide, cropped trousers. Two horizontal lines at once shorten you.
  • Sleeves pushed up past the elbow on a dropped-shoulder cut. It bunches. Fold the cuff once instead.

Lambskin needs slightly different care

Our oversized bomber is lambskin, which is softer and thinner than cowhide. Condition it lightly and less often, and never use a product with silicone or wax. The full routine is in the leather care guide.
